Cornerstone Enterprise Support Limited (Cornerstone) – a not-for-profit, voluntary organisation that offers free-of-charge mentoring to start-up and SMEs in Somerset. Cornerstone volunteers are all experienced, practising or retired business managers who want to lend their knowledge to help the economic development of Somerset.
A Cornerstone mentor, through a series of short meetings typically at monthly intervals, will encourage the business owner to take an objective view of the business. They will: help with business planning; discuss alternative approaches; examine business risks and coach basic business management tools where necessary.
The business mentor is a ‘sounding board’ for the business owner, but all business decisions ultimately are made by the owner. A mentor can help a start-up business to avoid many of the common causes of early business failure.
